Gallery of Extended Media, April 25 - May 6, 2003 : Two discussions about philosophical and sociological concepts of the just distribution in society were held in the working space of the exhibition
 

 

1. Monday April 28th: a discussion on the topic "A Life Without a Welfare State" was conducted by sociologists Nino ˇganec, PhD from the Croatian Ministry of Work and Social Care, and Mr. Darko Oracic from the Croatian Employment Bureau. During the discussion arguments were presented emphasizing the weakness of the welfare state concept (Oracic) and those emphasizing advantages of the same concept (ˇganec). Visitors to the exhibition participated in the discussion. The event was facilitated by Mr. Neven Petrovic, a philosopher from Zagreb.

2. Wednesday April 30th: the discussion topic was "Welfare State: Philosophical Arguments - pro et contra". ˇarko Puhovski, PhD - philosophy professor from the University of Zagreb, Mr. Neven Petrovic, philosopher from Zagreb, and Mr. Elvio Baccarini, philosophy professor from the University of Rijeka, introduced various philosophical approaches to distributive justice in society: in the philosophy of Karl Marx (Puhovski); in the modern philosophy of ethics (Baccarini); and in the recent philosophy of political liberalism (Petrovic). Visitors to the exhibition expressed their opinions and raised several questions about the topic.
